I Went to a workshop this weekend in Cannon Beach and I got to meet and hang out with some of my favorite writers. I ate dinner with Terry Brooks and chatted with Robert Dugoni. I have so many fond memories being in high school and curling up next to a fire with The Sword of Shannara in my hand. Terry Brooks is a great guy and it was very enjoyable conversing with a writer that influenced me in so many ways. My wife and I picked up Dugoni’s works on a whim as we needed an audio book for a long drive. We were hooked right away and now his books keep us company on every long trip. I really enjoyed talking with him and he gave me some great advice. I was also able to talk with another author named Kevin O’Brian and he writes crime fiction….sort of scary stuff with serial killers and such. I’m excited to read his works now that I’ve met him. I also heard a great talk from a very interesting writer named Brian Doyle. He was very inspiring and I ended up buying one of his books called The Grail. It sounded right up my alley as he wrote about his experiences spending a year with the owners of Lange Winery in Dundee Oregon. The book is about this wineries pursuit of the best Pinot Noir in the world. It looks interesting. Great weekend overall.
